In Need of Quality Time As a family of five, our weekly schedule is crammed with school and work, sports practices and games, other activities and obligations. Winter Thrillseekers

Winter’s in full swing, and you know what that means – it’s time to hit the slopes! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or strapping on a board for the first time, there’s nothing quite like carving through fresh snow with your favorite people. For my family, snowboarding is the ultimate winter thrill, a time where we make family memories to last a lifetime!

The Allure of Snowboarding

First things first – why choose snowboarding over other winter activities? Well, for starters, it’s a total adrenaline rush! Zooming down mountainsides, catching air off jumps, and mastering those sweet tricks!  Plus, it’s a great workout, promoting physical fitness amidst the most picturesque winter landscapes.

Family Fun on the Slopes

Snowboarding holds a special place in my heart–being all bundled up in our gear, laughing and joking as we ride the chairlift to the top. Picking our next run and planning our course, there’s so much fun to be had! Then, it’s time to ride! Whether you’re tackling green runs together or cheering each other on as you conquer black diamonds, you’re making memories that’ll last a lifetime.

Tips for Snowboarding with the Family

Ready to hit the slopes with your crew? Here are a few tips to ensure your family sowboarding adventure is nothing short of epic:

  • Start Slow: If you’ve got beginners in the group, start on easy slopes and work your way up. Remember, it’s all about having fun and building confidence!
  • Gear Up: Make sure everyone has the right gear – helmets, goggles, and of course, snowboards! Renting equipment at the resort is an option, but you can also check out local rental shops like D&Q to avoid the long rental lines at the mountain!
  • Take Breaks: Snowboarding can be exhausting, especially for younger riders. Take plenty of breaks to rest, refuel, and enjoy some hot cocoa in the lodge.
  • Celebrate Progress: Whether it’s mastering a new turn or conquering a fear, celebrate each other’s achievements on the mountain. Positive vibes only!
  • Safety First: Finally, always prioritize safety on the slopes. That means obeying trail signs, staying in control, wearing a helmet, and looking out for each other at all times.

Places to Go

  • In the Poconos…Montage Mountain
  • Best Learning Mountain…Bear Creek, great lodge and super close to South Jersey.
  • Favorite NY Mountain… Gore Mountain
  • Favorite VT Mountain…Mt. Snow. It’s where I learned to really ride and worked for a stint in college!
  • Out West…Pick your poison! They are all stellar!

Pruning Fruit Trees

When we first moved to our home five years ago, one of the first things we wanted to do was plant fruit trees. My husband grew up having them and I loved the idea of our children being able to go out into their own yard to pick fresh apples, pears, and peaches. Surprisingly, fruit … Read more
