Collingswood

The majority of Collingswood was formerly farmland owned by the Collings family during the 1700-1800s. Due to its Quaker roots, Collingswood was founded as a dry town; however, residents dining out are invited to bring their own alcohol to consume. Collingswood encompasses a total area of 1.95 square miles in Camden County and is home to over 13,850 welcoming neighbors.

Activities

The downtown section of Collingswood, located along Haddon Avenue, is known for its eclectic restaurants that offer a wide variety of cuisines. In 2018, Haddon Avenue was ranked the #1 Small-Town Food Scene in America by USA Today. Taking in the beautiful scenery and abundance of locally-owned businesses, it’s easy to see how this small town could draw such a coveted title. In addition to its range of dining options, downtown Collingswood also offers an array of designer boutiques, high-end consignment stores, galleries, and gift shops.

The beauty of the town truly shines every second Saturday of the month when stores, restaurants, and art galleries host new exhibits by painters, sculptors, and photographers from around the world. Local produce, baked goods, and crafts can also be found at Collingswood’s Farmers Market every Saturday from May through November.

Cooper River Park, Collingswood’s largest park, offers trails to walk, run, or bike. There are also plenty of water activities, from canoeing, kayaking, or sailing out on the river (but no swimming allowed). In the evening, enjoy gorgeous sunsets against the Philadelphia skyline.

Schools

The Collingswood Public School District serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade via five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. For the 2021-22 school year, the enrollment for the seven schools was 1,998 students.

Transportation

Collingswood is located just 5 miles east of Center City, Philadelphia and easily navigated via NJ-38, US-30 and I-676. Public transportation options include the PATCO hi-speed line, which residents can take to Camden and Philadelphia.
