Medford is a township in New Jersey that is around 39 square miles and home to over 23,000 welcoming residents. In 1820, the township was originally named Medford of Upper Evesham. This name was suggested by a developer who had recently visited Medford, Massachusetts. Two decades later, the township removed the ‘Upper Evesham’ part of its name. Over 40% of Medford’s land area is dedicated to open space. This land is intended for active and passive recreational interests and conservation.
 

Activities

Medford’s historic “Main Street” is lined with brick sidewalks and old-fashioned gas lights. This area also features a selection of unique shops and a variety of restaurants. Community connectedness shines in Medford as its residents come together every year to enjoy local events, including the Easter Egg Hunt, Art, Wine & Music Festival on Main Street, Halloween Parade, the Dickens Festival, and Tree Lighting on Main Street, as well as the Medford OktoberFest Music & Food Truck Festival.
 
On every third Thursday of the month from March to December, locals enjoy the family-friendly Main Street Medford Food Truck Nights. This event consists of over 10 unique food trucks, live music, tables for eating, easy parking, and open streets and crosswalks.
 
Medford is surrounded by an abundance of beautiful, serene landscapes. The Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge is a 171-acre non-profit wildlife refuge and nature center that is home to nearly 60 native animals. Visitors can utilize the hiking trails and Nature Center 7 days a week.  Medford is also connected to the million-acre wilderness of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, where visitors can enjoy recreational activities like biking, canoeing, and hunting.
 

Schools

The Medford Township Public School District serves students in pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade. The district consists of five elementary schools for kindergarten through fifth grade, one school for sixth grade, and one school for seventh and eighth grades.
 
Public school students in ninth through twelfth grades attend Shawnee High School or Lenape High School. Shawnee High and Lenape High are two of the four high schools in Lenape Regional High School District. These four high schools also serve students from Evesham Township, Mount Laurel Township, Shamong Township, Southampton Township, Tabernacle Township, and Woodland Township.

Medford is conveniently located 30 minutes from Philadelphia and 45 minutes from the Jersey Shore, giving residents easy access to the best of both worlds.
